La Central – Phase 1
Overview
This transformative, 1,200,000 SF mixed-used project will be a major commercial hub in the South Bronx. Built on a vacant parcel of city-owned land, the development will be comprised of 992 mixed income housing units, 35,000 SF of street-level retail space, a 50,000 SF YMCA, 30,000 SF of community facility space, 9,000 SF of active rooftop farm use and parking. BRP Companies partnered with, The Hudson Companies, and The YMCA of New York to round out the development team. On-site co-generation power, solar panels, grey- and black-water recycling will be implemented throughout the site. LEED Silver certification is anticipated. Construction began in 2017, and will take place over two phases completing in 2022.

Our impact
La Central aims to touch the lives over 900 families in Melrose earning between 30% and 130% of Area Median Income. The development is set to reach the broader community through a state-of-the-art YMCA, BronxNet production studio and carefully planned retail. In addition, the development features a roof-mounted telescope to be controlled by the Bronx High School of Science to support outreach to STEM education.
